Cosmo Sheldrake - Solar

If you’re a cultured poetry type (we're not - apart from a bit of Ted Hughes and Sir John Betjemen from school days) you might recognise the lyrics of this new Cosmo Sheldrake track Solar, as they’re an extract from the William Blake poem I Rose Up At The Dawn of Day. Solar is the b-side to the rather magnificent The Moss and once again confirms that Cosmo is an artist that needs to be celebrated, for here is someone taking what seems like an unassuming stand against the relentless tidal wave of homogenised pop.

Solar ticks all the boxes marked oddball, novelty and quirky but in a very good way. You can delve deeper and deeper, be fascinated by the methodical construction, explore the unusual sounds and despite the folkyness of the vocals, groove to his tunes as well. If only all pop was this inventive.
